Bio:
Mark was born in 1964 and is married to Lizbeth with two daughters, Oriana and Isabella, and a son, Oliver. He was educated at Worksop college and went on to read Urban Estate Surveying at Trent University.

Mark is a qualified chartered surveyor and worked as a surveyor at Savills from 1986-88 before moving on to be a Partner at Strutt and Parker from 1988-96. He then went on to be a Director at Hillier Parker from 1997-99 before setting up his own surveying practice.

Experience
Mark's previous political experience comes from his time as a Wandsworth Borough Councillor from 1990 until 1994. During this time he served as Chairman of the Property Committee from 1991-1992 and Chairman of the Housing Committee from 1992-1994.

He was then selected as Parliamentary candidate for Ashfield in 1996, standing against Geoff Hoon in the 1997 General Election. In June 2001, Mark was elected as the Member of Parliament for Boston and Skegness.

Since being elected to Parliament, Mark has been a member of the Environmental Audit Committee and also the Education and Skills Select Committee.
He has also served as Parliamentary Private Secretary to Rt Hon Michael Ancram QC MP, the Shadow Foreign Secretary from January 2002 before being promoted to the Frontbench. In November 2003, he was appointed Shadow Minister for Public Services, Health & Education. In September 2004, he became a Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs, and from May 2005, served as Shadow Minister for International Development. In July 2007, he was appointed as a Shadow Minister for Health.

His political interests include education, agriculture, health, foreign affairs and environmental issues. He is currently Secretary of the All Party Latin America Group.

Mark interests outside politics include his family, historical literature, watching rugby and playing tennis
