Bio:
From 1982-1995 Hugh was an army officer serving in The Life Guards, he saw active service in Northern Ireland, during the Gulf War, in Bosnia and with the UN in Cyprus. He retired as a Major in 1995, following his selection for Staff College, in order to pursue a political career. From 1995 to 2001 he worked in the Investment Management arm of Schroders. After his election he was appointed an Opposition Whip 2002. From September 2004 to May 2010 he served as Shadow Minister for Sport and Shadow Olympics Minister. In May 2010 he was appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport.
