Bio:
Before entering politics Michael was a journalist. At The Times Michael worked closely with Frances Lawrence, widow of the murdered headmaster Philip Lawrence, to fight street crime and its causes. Michael is the former Chairman of Policy Exchange, a centre-right think tank. After his election in 2005 Michael served as Shadow Minister for Housing & Planning and Shadow Secretary of State for Children, Schools & Families. Following the 2010 General Election he was appointed as Secretary of State for Education. He is the author of a number of books his most recent being Celsius 7/7.
